A young Fort Bliss soldier who thought he was only being fashionable by wearing a red bandanna ended up being the victim of a gang-related beating over colors, police say.

New details in the gang colors assault case were revealed in criminal complaints filed by El Paso police gang investigators that were obtained by the El Paso Times.

Earlier this month, gang investigators arrested Deomontez Duncan, 22; Jalen Daven Hasty, 26; Neco Cawthorn, 19; and Frederick D. Williams, 20, on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity-assault in connection with the beating.

Authorities say the suspects are Crips gang members, and Duncan also faces charges in a separate shots-fired case and an AK-47 possession case, according to court documents.
